Sunbonnet Sue

       At the time, I had only made one applique quilt before many, many years ago and it didn’t turn out so well. I received a request to make a Sunbonnet Sue quilt and this time it was different.

       I found a great tutorial and pattern by Sewveryeasy and did a few practice blocks. All of the Sues were made with scrap fabric.

       Once I ironed the Sue on to the background fabric square, I stitched her in place using a blanket stitch on my domestic machine. Each block is 9” x 9”.

       Here is a brief history of Sunbonnet Sue.

       I added a pale pink 2” sashing around each block. 
- 
      
      
      
        
  
       I quilted this on my longarm machine using the quilt pattern Baptist Fan from My Creative Stitches.

       The backing is bright green with pink flowers.
