Drunken Tiles
-
For Drunken Tiles, I pulled 12 different fabrics from my stash that were mostly blue or turquoise in color.
-
This pattern is from Nicholas Ball’s book called Inspiring Improv. I cut four rectangles from each color and then mixed them up into 12 stacks of 4.
-
The improv block is called stacks. I took a stack (containing four rectangles of different colors) and made a random vertical cut through the stack. The top piece on the right side moves to the bottom and I sewed the rectangles back together. Once they were all sewn, I stacked them up again and made a horizontal cut through the stack. I moved the two top right pieces to the bottom and sewed them together again.
-
I didn’t measure or worry about matching seems. It’s all very random. I used the same process with the remaining 11 stacks. I chose Kona Cotton Pickle for my highlight color and place random pieces throughout the quilt. I made a star shape for the center.
-
I quilted this on my longarm with a quilting pattern called Good Vibrations.
-
I cut the binding strips from the same material as the back.
-
I thought the wavy modern lines went well with this pattern.
