Tranquil Triangles
-
Tranquil Triangles is a quilt pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Company. I love this quilt because it is very busy but is only made from two different fabrics. I used Crows from Joann Fabrics and Kona Cotton Maroon.
-

This quilt is made up of 144 half square triangles. Once they are made, they have to be trimmed to size.
-

I followed the pattern for the layout. I debated on whether or not to make all the crows point north. In the end, I just placed them as they came of the pile.
-

Once they were all on the wall, I double checked to make sure they were placed correctly.
-

I sewed all of the squares to form a row and then sewed the rows together. I used a lot of pins to keep the seams lined up.
-

I added two borders-one is Kona Cotton Black and one in Kona Cotton Maroon.
-

It took 11 hours to free-motion quilt this on my longarm machine. I used rulers for the curvy and straight lines.
-

I mapped out my free-motion quilting prior to loading the quilt onto the frame. Once it’s on the frame, it’s easy to lose track of your row count. Plus I wanted to make sure I had a good design.
-

I used a silver gray medium weight thread called Cloud Cover from Superior. Here I am using a ruler for the straight lines on the border. The black border has a meandering pattern.
-

A close up of the finished quilt. I finished it with a traditional binding.
-

The backing is called Tie Dye Onyx.
