I took a class called “Fur Real” that where I learned a technique to make a fabric collage from a printed photo. This class focused on making animal collages.

Each collage is unique to the creator because you draw your own pattern by tracing out elements of the photo on tracing paper. You can have a few pattern pieces or many pieces for more detail.

Each piece is traced onto fabric of your choice using a fusible product. That piece is laid back on to the permanent pattern that is relected underneath a teflon sheet. A light box was very helpful here.

The eyes are drawn on to a piece of silk and shaded in with color pencil. Adding white highlights really makes the eyes.

Getting close to the end.

Prepping the background with quilting using my domestic machine. I don’t need to quilt the center since the cat will be fused in the center.

Once the cat was fused to the background, I free motioned quilted the cat with stitches that look like fur.

I glued the quilt to a canvas that I painted black.
